Treaty

The Black Peoples Union believes that entering into a treaty with the government is not only a futile effort, but a continuation of the colonial agenda. The history of broken treaties with Indigenous people in every colonised nation of the world, Australia’s track record of violating international humanitarian and human rights treaties, and the continued colonisation of this land by the government of Australia makes it clear that they cannot be trusted to uphold any agreements made with Indigenous peoples!

We reject the legitimacy of the state of Australia and its government, as it was established through the theft of our land and the genocide of our peoples. We refuse to participate in any process that recognizes and legitimises this illegitimate state.

Instead, we call for the formation of a treaty between the Sovereign Indigenous Nations of so-called Australia, as a means to unite and rise up against the colonial regime in a true revolution of liberation. By coming together as Indigenous Nations, we can reclaim our land, exercise true self-determination, and establish a new political and economic order that serves our people and not the colonial capitalist agenda.

We understand that this path will not be easy, but it is necessary for the survival and empowerment of our peoples. We call on all Indigenous Nations to come together and start the process of forming a treaty that will secure our rights to land, culture, and self-government. We call for the formation of a Union of Indigenous Nations, that will be able to resist and fight against colonisation, capitalism, imperialism and the illegitimate state of Australia.

We understand that this treaty will be a long process, but it is a process that is worth undertaking. Together, we can secure a brighter future for our peoples and ensure that our rights to land and self-determination are respected, upheld, and enforced, and that a true revolution and liberation of Indigenous people is achieved.

Join the Black Peoples Union in the call for a treaty between the Sovereign Indigenous Nations of this continent and help us work towards a future where our rights and sovereignty are respected and upheld, and where the illegitimate state of Australia is dismantled and replaced by a Union of Sovereign Indigenous Nations in a true revolution and liberation of Indigenous peoples.
